one hour to go

I can't really let myself complain about a 9 hour work day since I know, as well as everyone, that my job consists of writing these blogs and watching online tv shows...but that last hour sometimes just stretches on so long!
So I entertain myself the best way I know how; by reading other girl's blogs and gaining information from them that I didn't know before...for example:

I never knew that Alice in Wonderland was based on a real girl!

Alice Liddell, the daughter of some head honcho guy at Oxford back in the day who was a good friend of Lewis Carroll! He took a bunch of pictures of her, this one being my personal fave:

i guess thats all the useless tidbits i have to share for now...although i did spend some time really seriously thinking of starting up an e-bay store to sell some of the village finds i have that i planned on altering that i havn't gotten around to doing yet.
I think it'll have to be a solo project cause i feel like those get off the ground faster, but anyone who has tips feel free to share them! I've been asking some of my favourite e-bayers for advice recently and they are all very helpful!

What I did notice about other bloggers is that they put up "inspiration posts" every once in a while with pictures of stuff that inspires how they dress....well...
Here are my PERSONAL "inspirations" recently ....

knowlton + spaghetti

A drive out to the townships in late September has to be one of the most scenic drives I've ever taken! Some of the colors in the trees are colors I've never even seen before!
This SHOULD be my last camera-phone photo shoot since my beautiful Leica is supposed to be arriving in the mail this week!
So bare with the blurriness!

We arrived in Knowlton to find out it was the annual duck fest and half the population (about 40 people) were out and about watching rubber duckies "race" down the stream and eating samples of duck cooked in different ways out of a big white tent that smelled like wet grass.
There was a pen with llamas, donkeys, goats and assorted poultry where Lola quickly made some friends, and foes.
Then we went to eat dinner at the Spaghetti Ranch in magog. It is was it sounds like. A Ranch, where Spaghetti is served and a bread-bar allows you to eat all the bread you want toasted to your liking with a selection of different flavoured butters!
We even shared a chocolate mousse for dessert cause it was so cheap!!!

Baby Hunter

This weekend I went to see my friend Ashley's brand new 11 day old baby boy Hunter. Not only did it make me realize how much I really miss the people I saw all the time before moving into Montreal, but it made me wonder why I became such an "on-island-snob" when those are the people I used to hate the most in the world.
Mike and I spent 90% of the weekend taking walks, walking around my new neighbourhood, walking around my parents house, walking around Knowlton and Lake Brome and then down the Lachine canal, and for the first time in a while I was super duper happy.

I am starting to see that my transitional phase between being a kid and a grown up will actually come to a close at some point, but that I've gotta start taking the steps to make it happen!
Not that I'm ready to turn in my party shoes and apartment life yet! (no way not yet!)

But it is kind of nice to have caught a glimpse of the life I really want and gotten a taste of how worthwhile it is to start taking the steps towards that life now...

cheesy and kinda boring as far as blog entries go, but what are these things really for if not to let anyone who cares in on how i'm feeling.

wow wow wow

Friday was spent scrubbing and unpacking the coop. It was a tiresome job but definitely worthwhile! The look on Stef's face when she came home from work was enough to make all the aches and pains fly out the window!

The kitchen looks picturesque, straight out of design sponge in my opinion, and my bedroom is quickly shaping up to be just how i dreamed it would be!

On another fabulous note, I won my camera on e-bay! hurray hurray hurray! So many beautiful pics of my new home, my pooch (who is coming to stay with me for a week and then potentially going to a new home..more later on that) and my rapidly-approaching trip to europe!!!!!!!!!!!

Lastly, I'm once again in an awkward position with my stupid jobs and am looking for work again on weekends! If any of you have parents or aunts or uncles with stores or restaurants that require staff temporarily, let them know you have someone!!!

Otherwise, CV passing on monday will be on the menu!!!!!

little things.

Sometimes I go through phases where I have to remind myself of the good in my life.
This is not one of them.
The good things are so incredibly apparent to me, I'm almost overwhelmed with appreciation for them!
In order to let some of this emotion out I thought I'd write a list! :)

Things that are making me happy:

  • Routine
  • Knowing when my 1st alarm goes off in the morning that I have 2x 9 minutes more to cuddle with Mike before facing the morning.
  • The way people are friendlier really early in the morning.
  • Walking to work at 6am with a coffee, wrapped up in warm morning clothes.
  • Hanging clothes in my closet.
  • The sound of Stef making herself coffee in the morning.
  • When Mike wakes me up smelling fresh from his shower.
  • Sitting on apartment floors with Stef and talking.
  • The way we both felt like we were at a wonderful cottage last night while we unpacked.
  • The feeling that things are finally falling into place.

On that very same note, another bit of happiness in my life these days is all the ideas floating around in my head with regards to my new bedroom!
I've gone and painted the whole thing white, with hopes of accesorising it in such a way that it doesn't fall into the bland category.
With that in mind, I stumbled upon my absolute most favourite e-bay store yet!
The Bella Cottage sells antique looking household stuff that they have entirely remastered to make into the absolute cutest items I have ever seen! Everything in their store is princess inspired from the beautiful bedframes and dressers down to the tutu adorned boudoir chairs, and I want it all!
Unfortunately I can't afford it all, or any of it for that matter (except maybe for the adorable appliques I'm thinking of getting for my upcoming bedroom vanity plans...) so I'm using it to draw inspiration for my attempts at creativity/craftiness.
I'm starting small by adding ribbons to my lampshades, handles to my dresser and maybe working my way up to that curtain/shelf above the bed thing in the pictures below.
All this to say, I'm happy! So happy! I love my new place, my trip is less than 2 months away and I am slowly realizing I'm ready for it! Financially I mean. Which is a huge relief!

Now, amuse yourselves with these pretty pictures which, hopefully you can soon admire in real life in my bedroom!!

Lastly, I found the camera I want to buy for Europe and my upcoming E-bay store ambitions...I've seen a couple on ebay for a decent price, but I don't know much about cameras, so if anyone (Olivia, Libby?) has any tips, please share!!

P.S. Stef and I discovered upon unpacking that we have about 4 fondue sets, a really cute dip chiller and a kit for dipping oils and breads...so, we should use them.
MMMMM fondue night! Cheese, Chinese and Chocolate!

sisters

I just got one of those office chain mail things about the importance of female solidarity and "sisterhood" from Mike's mom.
Usually sentimental junk mail kind of makes me, what I like to call "loner-embarassed" - like when you do a stupid dance in the shower or something and you feel your face turn red even though nobody in the world saw you or will ever know you did that- but this time it, for some reason, struck some kind of a chord in me.

Much like some other ladies I know, I've been on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster recently (*see Kat Stein's blog) and i suppose at the moment I'm in a bit of a sentimental mood. I just can't stop thinking about how much all the girls in my life mean to me!
I love my boyfriend, and my daddy and guy friends so much, but there is something so comforting about time spent with other ladies.

In high school I used to think girls were so mean and always in competition with each other, and although my insecure self always still assumes people hate me or think I'm lame, I can see the solidarity between girls so much more than when we were all younger!

Basically what this long ranty blog is trying to get across, is that I am really appreciative for all the love that the ladies in my life give me, and that without knowing it you guys have allll helped me get through a couple of sticky spots in the last couple of years and I'm sending you each a huge hug and a thank you! :)

P.S I know I am being a "Meaghan Mushy" in Stef's words. But this is just how I am feeling!

longest boredom post yet!

I just got off the phone with my beloved Grandmaman and realised how much I miss her! I'm gonna have to go ahead and say that a little part of me misses living at home. Not for the usual money reasons, or anything like that, but just for the casual time spent with family and comfort of having all the people who love you most in the world right there by your side.
I think it's the fact that I do live on my own though that's allowed me this appreciation for family bonds, and I'm grateful that I get to live with someone who I consider as close as any of my relatives!
Recently I've been so caught up in work and friends and moving that I've barely taken the time to get back to my roots in good old Otterburn Park and quite frankly its leaving me feeling a little strange. Luckily this Friday I have a lovely double date planned with Kristina, Pat and my Mikey to sleep over at my folk's and then get up early for a country breakfast followed by a few solid hours of apple picking and relaxing outdoors. I can't wait!

Now back to stupid stuff nobody cares about, but that entertains me!

Stripes! Stripes! Stripes!

most beautiful babe at the ho-down!

I want this if only to wear it tucked into a pair of really high waisted dark grey skinny jeans and a sparkly red headband!

Fur coats are pretty but I feel silly wearing them, they never fit me right. This one is cute and fitted and I want one just like it.

I <3 The USA thanks to this shirt

Little girls always had the nicest coats back then...

Older ladies had even better bags!

I'll take my own personal white sandy beach with a monsieur to hold a parasol above my head!

A FULL BODY CABLE KNIT JUMPSUIT!!! OH MY!!

photobooth love.

cutest Christmas dress. Want one just like it.

Just bought me a pair of yellow tights EXACTLY like these ones!

Teeny Tiny waists work with these 50's day dresses, my gigantic rib cage, does not!

hmm day dream.

young boy dressed in drag?

MY FUTURE CHILDREN MUST BE THIS CUTE! Mikey!!!!!!!!!!!

go to hell tony hawk

I've gone completely off my rocker with anticipation for this new home of mine, which I am lucky enough to share with one of the greatest people I know!
We've spent the last week up to our elbows in paint and primer and have been eating our midnight meals together off boxes on our kitchen floor, drinking water out of martini glasses cause they are all we have left that isn't packed!

In other news my friend Ashley just gave birth to the most beautiful baby boy named Hunter.... and William (the cat) is teething!

Fall is in the air and I've got apple picking plans for the next two or three weekends as well as a long list of pre determined outfits that I've typed up on Word in order not to forget the ideas I get when I'm bored.

The next 6 weeks are insane for me, but I've been afforded a break this weekend because Le Bisou got their liquor license suspended for 5 days and therefore have no need for waitresses! It's given me just enough breathing room to get excited for my trip again and to think about some more things I want to buy before I leave!
Weekly trips to Village are definitely a must so I can find these items for cheap!

Lastly, Happy birthday to Isabel + Andrew and hurray for new apartments!!!!!!!
