St-Michel de Vaudreuil

cemetery

Today is Mike's birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE! - and last night we went to his Mom's house in Vaudreuil for some good old fashioned birthday cake! We were driving right in rush hour and opted to take the scenic route there, which is considerably longer, but better than sitting in traffic. I saw so many perfect blog-picture taking opportunities along the way, but we didn't want to be late for dinner. We ended up making record time and so Mike suggested we stop at his favourite spot in his little home town - St Michel church. It's a 400 year old church and it's just beautiful. We went for midnight mass last year at Christmas just so Mike could show me the big Archangel that he wants to get tattooed on him someday...
Anyway, the lighting was all off for getting any good pictures of the building. It wasn't until we snuck out behind the church and saw the light pouring in through the old tombstones like that, that we decided it was the perfect opportunity for some blog photos!
(I hope I'm not the only one who has blog photos on the brain so constantly!)

Dinner was wonderful and Mike had a great time! We took the fast way home and both fell asleep upon arrival like the two old folks that we really are on the inside. Tonight we'll be barbecue-ing at his house with his friends and on Monday I have a special surprise birthday outting planned for him!!! I'm sure you'll all know all about it once it happens! :)

My apartment is coming together beautifully! Fall breezes keep drifting in through all the open windows and our front porch is just about made for sipping coffee early in the morning. We've been listening to perfect Fall music and watching old movies like the 1930's version of Little Women! I'll be posting more once the empty-box occupation is over....

oy, is it odd to think that those boots and bobbed socks make for the perfect graveyard exploration footwear? it seems that dewed and haunted grass would seep through anything else. lovely pictures!

Aww, that little town looks just amazing. And is there really a 400 year old church? I can't imagine!!! OK, now I really want to visit Canada!!

I love that Mike took you to a midnight mass to show you an angel that he wants to get a tattoo of, ha ha.

And I already said it on your Flickr, but your outfit's really perfect. I love how you mixed up the sweetness with edginess, especially with those ankle socks and boots together!! It really looks wonderful.

I can't wait to see what you have planned for Monday!!

the light in your pictures is so fantastic! and the booties + ankle socks combo looks amazing on you - surprisingly enough, i think it's kind of a hard look to pull off, but you do so wonderfully!

Such gorgeous pictures! I really love old tombstones as well, very old graveyards I find interesting rather than creepy.

Nath: I'm sure the sun will show its little face soon! And he sure is a lucky boy to have so many birthday celebrations!

Quincy: I figured so much, you ladies make it seem so effortless to find all these perfect spots, but really its a constant search! :) hehe

Lauren: its true, you're both virgos! how fun!! i wonder if that's why you get along so well?

toosdai: haha not odd at all! in fact i love that you said that! it's protecting me from mean ghosts who might come in through less practical shoes!

kelley anne: thank you!!

Rhiannon: we felt horribly out of place. we never go to church really and we didnt know any of the "moves" and we kept whispering and pointing at pretty things on the ceiling...You have to come to Canada! Our province just turned 400 years old today! :D Quebec city is filled with old buildings too!

Faux Naif: aww thank you you're really sweet!! :D

Sarathira: oh I'm working on it! right now it's still all filled with empty boxes and such. but as soon as we're done i'll be posting lots of pictures!! for all of you to see!

Lizzy: they really are dreamy aren't they? I get so nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born yet! :)

Juliemay: thank you!!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes dearest cute vintage women of the almighty interweb.

That church rules. The entire interior is covered in amazing art painted directly on the walls and celling. The wood is obviously pretty old and has begun to crack and split in some places; it just looks so epic.

And thank you coocoo bird for always mentioning me on your blog, makes me feel famous. can't wait for my surprise on Monday!

Jenna: Aww thanks! I told him to come and read the comment section so he could see all the lovely birthday wishes he was getting! And I never had a porch as my last apartment and I really like it! I thought I would miss having a yard, but a porch is so much less maintenance and kind of fun to sit out on and look down on things from above! :)

Frances: I know! I still have the book and read it every time I can! And I loved even the Winona Ryder version of the film, but this one really is amazing! I'll try to take a closer shot of the shoes next time! :)

Casey: Aww I'm gonna have to be strict with myself so I remember to take pictures at the birthday surprise! i feel as though I'll get caught up in the fun and forget! but i'm gonna try!

Stef: hahaha thanks! i am so happy you like it - and him!

Jessica: Aww you're the sweetest, and yeah i think it's kind of fun because Blogging makes me stop in pretty places I would usually just have driven by going OOO look at that! I got Mike to come check out all these awesome bday comments! hehehe!

Mike: you deserve all the bday wishes! and you are famous! remember that kid at the cafe?? she thought you were famous!
