This is a mash up of a bunch of pictures from the last few days/weeks. October has always been a favourite month of mine. Here in Canada it means Thanksgiving, for one thing, and for another, it means beautiful colors and markets teeming with root vegetables and colorful booths selling gourds and earth cherries for pennies! It means my apartment smells like butternut-squash soup and apple crisp and that my puppy and I can go for extra long walks and explore new neighbourhoods. And when we get home, we're both so tuckered out that we cuddle on the couch and watch old movies or listen to Louis Armstrong together.

There isn't much in this world that is more comforting to me than Fall, which is a feeling most people share I think. Casey already mentioned that it sends right into nesting mode, and I have to agree! This weekend is officially the pumpkin cookoff, and the week after that my Mom and I are having a "squirreling party" when we'll can a bunch of great things like pears and peaches and cherries as preserves for the winter! In the mean time I've been here at my apartment taking breaks from studying to make things like orzo with fresh dill and lemon!
I do hope everyone else is having as lovely an October as I have so far! From the looks of all the wonderful blogposts, I'm not the only one enjoying this awesome season!

WOW this is perfect, Meaghan!! you've officially made me do an autumn post later this week.. I love all of these pictures.
'nesting' sounds insanely good right now. :) why do we need to leave the house at all?
oh i want to come over to your place! or else i should just get some apples and butternut squash! this is really getting me in the mood for fall, since we're not quite there yet in california!
Oh that butternut squash looks so yummy! I can't wait to make my first butternut squash soup of the season. How cute is your gingham apron?
Lovely autumn post :) The fall weather makes me want to stay inside and curl up and read or bake lots of fabulous fall desserts. Your pie and butternut squash look so tasty.
Your "squirreling party" sounds so fun, that such a wonderful idea.
Great pictures, your trees are getting much better colors than the ones around me are yet.
Oh, and I love your apron!
Aww, Meaghan, it looks like you're having such a great time! Isn't Fall the best? There's something so nice and home-y about it--I love to be able to do nerdy things like visit apple orchards and bake a ton without feeling self-conscious about it. And canning with your mom sounds like fun! Do you guys have a garden?
Oh dear, this post makes me want to drink apple cider and knit a sweater. :)
I couldn't agree more with your favorite month. Fall is great and I always wondering if someday I could stay for a whole fall-season in the western countries - or otherwise I'll just be a careless dreamer and wishing a fall will reach my country... which is, theoritically, will never happen. *Sigh*
But luckily, I live in such city that have pretty big mountainous area around the northern, and I just need to runaway there for a little fall-atmosphere. You all are so lucky to have the real fall! It's so interesting to read the story about you, welcoming the fall days to come. And your darling hair that I adore so much!! <3
I totally agree! I've been spending most of my days baking and going around town, enjoying the lovely fall weather. Your apron is just adorable too!
Now I really want to go make some sort of thick soup- pumpkin soup, squash soup. . .
this is so very cozy!
autumn really is one of the best seasons! i think everyone seems to get more excited about it than summer haha. i love squash hmm i might buy some today actually. i'm going pumpkin and squash picking on saturday too! so excited
So nice pictures !
Love that last photo of you with the pumpkins. Pumpkin is my fav veggie.
The leaves look beautiful, its just beginning spring here in Australia.
Thanks for your comment, I think jelly cakes would be perfect with little bday candles in them :)

I love butternut squash! Is the soup hard to make?
Such lovely photo of the fall leaves and your read coat! Envy! I am trying so hard to budget and plan for a trip to somewhere cold this year end! These fall posts just make me want to get away from the tropics!
Aww, so perfect! I can't wait until fall starts here! I adore your little gingham outfit :o)
So hungry for butternut squash now!! YUM.
Oh my goodness....that last picture is so cute!
I will totally get into fall mood once my exam and this module are over because then I have enough time to bake, watch movies and read books!
I love it when the leaves are changing color, that first picture is so great. I should take some outfit photos in one of our parks soon :)
Gorgeous photo and yummy!
i love fall colors! fun pics
Lauren - oh my gosh! Lauren ever since that silly facebook status convo about starting a Farm i've had brainstorming sessions with myself about what on earth I can do with my life to make my dream of living out in the country with six to eight kids possible! NESTING NESTING NESTING!
Calivintage - oh i wish you could come over! aww you're gonna get there right as we're starting winter and then i'll be jealous!
sarah - oh isn't it the most comforting soup? mine ended up being a little too flavourful, it was sort of intense, i think i need to water it down some more next time. and thanks! my grandma made that apron!
Lizzy - oh I know exactly what you mean. i just want to curl up all day too! its hard to leave the house! i'll have to take pictures of the squirreling party for sure! i'm sure your trees will look like this in no time and i'll be the jealous one!
rhiannon - Fall has been wonderful so far indeed! we don't have a garden! :( we used to but my Mom went back to work full time and I moved out on my own and we sort of let it go! as for hot apple cider and knitting a sweater, i really can't think of anything better!
Claradevi - aww I didnt know you didn't have fall at all! it is a wonderful season, but i'm happy to hear you have mountains near by that offer you all kinds of pretty mountain stuff!
Roxanne - aww isn't it the best? Fall really does bring out the housewives in us doesn't it? and thank you, the apron was a gift from my grandmother! you should definitely make a soup!
Helen - it's the best for sure! everyone gets so motivated and crafty and creative! it seems to really bring out the best in people! ohhh pumpkin picking! be careful for the ones with the prickly stems!
Stephanie - thank you!
Rose - awww thanks! pumpkins are delicious, these are actually butternut squash, but its pretty similar in terms of cooking. and wow i always forget that as i'm gearing up for fall and winter you guys are prepping for spring and summer! aww and i'm definitely gonna try those jelly cakes!
Brianne - no not at all! i got the recipe off the internet and it took maybe two hours to make! and it's delicious! just google butternut squash soup!
Ashley - awww it's so funny that people who live in the north wanna travel south in the winter, and you guys want to travel north for cooler weather. Canada is definitely cold, maybe too cold in winter if thats what you're planning. where in the tropics are you?
Quincy - AWw i am sure it'll hit soon enough and i'll be jealous once again because it'll be close to freezing here and we'll have snow and i'll wish i could leave the house in a sweater! :P
Corrie - oooh its the best isnt it?
Manja - thank you! and yeah exams can kill a good time cant they? i have a bunch coming up. but i took a break to do all this stuff! and yes! do take an outfit photo! fall is the best backdrop!

awesome photos! i really love fall, too! i honestly look forward to it all year long! it seems like you're having such a good month! I hope your midterms go well and the good times continue!
Oh Meaghan, this is so lovely! Autumn has always been my favourite season too! It feels really weird right now actually as I'm living in a college here in London, and I've never lived in one before, so it doesn't have that homey feel I love so much at this time! Plus, London is such a big city, and even though I lived in the city at home, Melbourne is way smaller and you didn't have to travel far for country feel and autumn leaves. I want to walk through an orchard full of fallen apples and visit a market! i love the look of your pumpkin cookoff, man I love pumpkin everything!! My boyfriend makes my all time favourite pizza- Pumpkin, rocket and taleggio! ahh, sorry for the rambly comment, you made me so nostalgic!
OMG these photos are so fantastic, made me smile!
i'm glad fall arrived! and cuddling on the sofe while listening to good music or watching good films is the perfect way to spend it!
You're so cute, Meaghan!! I love the "squirreling party" idea!
I love the gourds, too. I use to make cool art projects out of dried gourds.

Such a lovely post, I've got the biggest craving for some butternut squash now! Also, I tagged you, xx
Fall is definitely my favorite season and you're so spot on when you say it's a comforting time! Everything about Fall is just so cozy. It's still a bit warm here but it's definitely been cooler - I can feel the crisp air creeping in.
I wish I could actually cook so Fall could mean baking/cooking comfort food but alas, I can't cook worth crap! So it's off to the bakeries for pumpkin pie and the like for me.
Oh, and you should post pictures of your puppy sometime! I want to see!
Oh gosh, butternut squash. I have to share my ultimate butternut squash recipe with you. I have made it the past two Thanksgivings and it goes over the top!
You can find it here: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Butternut-Squash-Gratin-with-Goat-Cheese-and-Hazelnuts-240412
