North Country Blues

I think this might be the very last of the outdoor photoshoots Mike and I do until April or May. Since this day (which was also very cold) temperatures in Montreal have dropped to about -20 degrees (Celsius of course), and me standing outside in open toe shoes and silk playsuits just won't be an option anymore, even if it is only for the few seconds it took me to stand there for Mike to snap these.
Either way, I thought I'd share my white Christmas weather with all of you who don't get snow for Christmas. I hate Winter, I'm not a very Winter-Sporty kind of girl and most winters I end up feeling sort of blue because my bundled up sprints from my door to the subway don't provide enough sunlight or fresh air for my brain! But this year I'm determined to invest in some really warm, modern Northern outerwear and do things like build snowmen and go ice skating and take walks on the mountain and maybe I'll even attempt skiing again, although I don't know how willing my brain will be to let me plummet down a mountain at full speed....last time I tried I was in Alberta and I gave up after one run and sat in the cabin drinking hot rhum Toddy's all weekend!

I'm strangely unexcited for Christmas this year. Maybe it's because my exams go right up until the 22nd and I am more focused on those, but even though most of my shopping is done and my outfits are planned, it just isn't really sinking in that it's a week away today!
Now back to that hot pot of coffee and the less than exciting British Lit exam I have to study tonight. I think English Literature is making me hate some of those old British poets I loved so dearly before they became the topics of the essays I have to write by the end of today! Ah!

Lovely photos! :D And your hat is adorable!

Good luck with finals. I know exactly what you mean about your Lit. class. I had to write a massive paper on Poe for American Lit., and I just got so sick of him by the end of it!

Such amazing pics! I love that romper too, it's perfect. I'm not really feeling Christmas that much either, I've had a lot of other stuff on my mind and it's distracting! Man, I want to make a hot toddy now!

Oh, I simply adore your playsuit. It reminds me of something from the movie The Notebook!

Loving your darker hair as well.

I feel your pain. Yesterday it was 10 degrees Fahrenheit, and I've started taking pictures inside instead. You look lovely! I love the boots with the tights and the short romper.

Super cute pictures! I love your playsuit. I don't know how you stand to be in the cold without a coat for even a short amount of time though!
I know what you mean, some years when Christmas comes around it just doesn't feel like Christmas and I just can't feel the excitement I usually do. Having exams up to the 22nd stinks!
School and essays really can suck the fun out of classics can't they. Some books you read and wonder if the author really meant to have all the themes and symbolism or if people are just over thinking things!!!

i am one of those people who do not get snow :( try 80 degrees today! i'm wearing a sun dress for pete's sake.
good luck with your finals, what a bummer that you have them up to the 22nd :( hang in there, it's almost over ;D

These pictures are amazing..I LOVE the background!!!! And wearing a romper with big boots in the snow...too cute!

I always liked there to be one good snow and then for it all to go away. Driving in it is the absolute worst. But now that I know there will never be snow I miss it! Oh the grass is always greener on the other side.

you look so pretty i almost can't handle it. that playsuit and your hat and the light and GOSH your legs just never end.

good luck with your remaining exams! trust me, freedom is sweet when it comes. yesterday i stayed up until 1.00 am not because i HAD to, but because i WANTED to.

and don't let school ruin poets for you! that is actually why i didn't go into english lit... i've been the biggest bookworm for all of my life, and doing lit at university only seemed like the natural (and expected) thing for me to do, but i was afraid that constant textual dissection would just completely smother my love of reading.

i've probably smothered yours by now. this is one helluva long comment.

i'm gone.

Wow, I love these incredible photos with all my heart!!! They look as though they're from some high fashion magazine. And that romper!!! It's to die for. Perfect! And don't feel bad, I gave up on skiing too and just pouted for a good while afterward.

How exciting that snow is! Its so pretty! You must have been freezing. It snowed yesterday here in London and I went a bit crazy- you definitely don't ever see snow in Melbourne so its quite the novelty. That sucks about exams ruining your favourite poetry! Definitely been there. Nearly over now though! I just finished my degree today, Its so exciting, and tomorrow I'm heading to France! I do hope I can keep up with your blog while I'm travelling dear, I will certainly try! xxx

i'm studying art history with minor concentrations in political science and anthropology. it's a lot of work, but it's A.MA.ZING. the trick is to do something you like, i think, because then doing lots of work really isn't that much of an ordeal. also, what stream of english are you in? i think there are cultural studies and theatre and just straight up lit options... maybe shop around the department to see what else they've got? i don't know. good luck!

p.s. i will email you about your little secret messagey thing... we're like spies...

Oh my, is so cold in Montreal, and here my friends are saying that it's cold because yesterday we had 0º?? Come on, I'll tell them about this!!!

But anyway the pictures are so beautiful that still make me wish it was snowing here!

I'll send you tons of good luck for your exams :)

My goodness, what a wonderful playsuit. You're fearless for wandering out into the cold land in such a cute outfit! I can sympathize with the dread of writing papers and how they manage to take what was once joyful and turn it into brain sludge! I took a Faulkner class and had a mini meltdown and left in the middle of class, and even now when I see the small print of Absalom, Absalom! my heart shudders a little bit even though I love love love Faulkner.

I don't think I can ever complain about having to take pictures in Atlanta winter weather again! The other day it was like 39 and I had to take a break and sit in the heat for a while . .. and I had a big old coat and boots on, too! You must be extra tough. But then again that romper's too good to show covered up by a coat, so I don't blame you! :)
